Emily and Maddie Claire Update

Hi Everyone. It's been a long while since I posted on my blog, but I wanted to write in one common place so that everyone would know what is going on and that I could post updates in one easy place. I'll start from the beginning:

As many of you know, Emily gave birth to Madison Claire at 1:11pm this afternoon, 1/11/11. Adam was the only family member in the delivery room. Soon after Maddie’s birth, we noticed it was taking a while to bring the baby out and that lots of nurses and doctors were going in. Emily was wheeled out of the room at around 1:45 and went straight into emergency surgery for about 2.5 hours. Emily lost almost 5 units of blood, and had to receive that many while in surgery. We were told she would have to have a hysterectomy immediately, which was brought with much devastation, but after 3 attempts at saving the uterus, they were successful. They inserted a fluid-filled balloon into her abdomen to hopefully stop the bleeding and prevent the hysterectomy.

Emily has been in ICU and was pretty out of it, but she got to finally meet and hold Maddie Claire, which is great, since they wouldn’t let anyone hold Maddie except for Adam until Maddie was able to bond with Emily. They do not allow babies in the ICU, so it was awesome they broke the rules for her. She was so swollen and still is; so much so that they had to cut off her wedding ring.

Last night, Emily was able to hold Maddie Claire for an hour or so. They also brought her back in about 10am this morning and she got to hold her for about 30 minutes. The doctors came in and removed the balloon successfully, so we are praying that the bleeding doesn't begin again. She is going to be moved the the maternity wing at some point today so that she can begin to feed Maddie and be with her as much as possible. She will be in the hospital 3-4 more days.

Emily is doing much better, although is was very scary and she is still very tired. When I know more, I will update.

The hospital internet is spotty so I can't post any pictures, but I will try to upload some on my Facebook page today.

Love you all. Thanks for praying for my baby sister!
